Before Your Tune-Up or Repair
Whether it is a seasonal tune-up or a system that is acting up, a few details from you make the visit faster and the diagnosis better.
What We Need From You
- Clear a path to the furnace or air handler, and clear the space around it. Basement, closet, attic, or crawlspace. We have to pull the panels off and set tools down, so storage stacked against it needs to move out of the way first. We are not able to move your belongings for you.
- Clear around the outdoor unit too. Two feet of space on all sides. Move the trash cans, trim the bushes back, unstack the firewood.
- Clear the driveway and leave us a door. Park as close to the house as we can get, and we may need a door propped to run a cord or carry equipment in.
- Write down what the system is doing. When it started, what it sounds like, whether it is every time or only sometimes, which rooms are affected. Odd details help more than you would think.
- Know your filter size, or leave the old one out where we can see it. It is printed on the edge of the frame.
- Leave the system on your normal setting unless it is unsafe. We want to see the problem happen, not a system that has been reset an hour ago.
- Plan for pets, and leave us a parking spot. We will be going in and out to the outdoor unit.
- Someone 18 or older should be home to approve any repair before we do it.
What We Do While We Are There
You tell us what it is doing
Two minutes of your history beats an hour of our guessing.
We diagnose it
Full check of the system, electrical, airflow, and refrigerant or combustion side depending on what we are looking at.
We show you what we found
Photos and a plain explanation, along with your options. You will never get a repair you did not approve first.
Flat-rate price, then the work
The repair price comes off a printed menu and includes the part and the labor to install it. No mystery labor math.
How the $100 Diagnostic Works
A diagnostic visit is $100. It drops to $0 if we do the repair the same day, and it is free for maintenance plan members. After-hours diagnostics, nights and Sundays, run $200, and that surcharge is waived for HVAC and Complete Home plan members.
Tune-ups are their own flat price: $100 for a furnace, $100 for an AC. Full pricing and the whole repair menu are on the heating and cooling page.
If We Find Something Bigger
Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair is not worth it on an old system. If that is where we land, we will say so, show you the numbers both ways, and you decide. A replacement quote is free and there is no pressure to do it that day.
After We Are Done
- You get photos of what we found and what we did.
- We will tell you honestly what to keep an eye on, and what can wait.
- If you are having us out more than once a year, ask about the maintenance plans. Members get free diagnostics and skip the after-hours surcharge.
- Happy with the work? A quick Google review goes a long way for a local shop.
Common Questions
Do you charge extra to come out?
There is no separate trip fee. A diagnostic is $100 and it becomes $0 if we do the repair the same day.
Will you have the part on the truck?
Common parts, usually yes. If we have to order something we will tell you the timeline before you commit to anything.
Can you tell me the price over the phone?
For tune-ups and diagnostics, yes, those are flat. For a repair we have to see it first, but the repair prices themselves are published on our heating and cooling page so there are no surprises.
Do I need to be there the whole time?
Someone 18 or older needs to be home to approve the work. You do not have to hover.
Questions before we come out?
Call or text and we will get you sorted. We answer 24/7, every day of the year.
