UV Coil Light
One lamp aimed at the indoor coil and drain pan. Keeps the coil clean, cuts the musty smell when the system kicks on, and helps keep the condensate drain from clogging.
Whole-Home UV, Dual Lamp
Two lamps. One on the coil, one treating the air as it moves through the ductwork. For homes where air quality is the bigger concern.
The Coil Is the Dirtiest Part of the System
All summer, your AC pulls water out of the air across the indoor coil. That coil sits wet, dark and warm inside a closed box. It is the one spot in the house built for growing mold, and every bit of air in the house goes across it.
Musty smell
That damp, dirty-sock smell for the first minute after the AC or heat turns on usually starts at the coil.
Lost airflow
Growth and dirt stuck to a wet coil choke the air going through it. The system runs longer to do the same job.
Clogged drains
Slime in the drain pan is what backs up the condensate line and puts water on the basement floor.
The UV light runs around the clock and stops that growth from taking hold. You never see it or hear it. About the only thing to remember is a new lamp once a year, and we check it at every tune-up.
What We Will and Will Not Tell You
A UV light is a good, simple upgrade that keeps the inside of your system clean. It is not a cure for allergies and we are not going to sell it like one. If air quality is the real worry, the honest answer is a good filter, a clean duct system, and then a UV light or an air scrubber on top of that.
The best time to put one in is when the system is already open. That is why our techs offer it on tune-ups, repairs and duct cleanings. If you would rather just add it on its own, call and we will set it up.

How much does a UV light for an HVAC system cost in Kansas City?
A single-lamp UV coil light is $300 installed. A whole-home dual-lamp UV system is $750 installed. Both are flat prices that include the unit and the labor, and we can usually add either one on the same visit as a tune-up, repair or duct cleaning.
What does a UV coil light actually do?
The indoor coil on your AC sits wet and dark all summer, which is exactly where mold and bacteria like to grow. A UV-C lamp mounted in the system shines on the coil and drain pan around the clock and keeps that growth from taking hold. A cleaner coil means better airflow, less of that musty smell when the system kicks on, and fewer clogged condensate drains.
What is the difference between the $300 light and the $750 system?
The $300 unit is one lamp aimed at the coil and drain pan. The $750 whole-home system uses two lamps, one on the coil and one treating the air as it moves through the ductwork. If the goal is a clean coil and no musty smell, the single lamp does the job. If you want the air treated too, go with the dual lamp.
Will a UV light fix my allergies?
We will not promise that. A UV light keeps the coil and drain pan from growing mold, which is one less thing in the system. It is not a medical device. If air quality is the main concern, pair it with a good filter and a duct cleaning, or ask us about a whole-home air scrubber.
Do the bulbs need to be replaced?
Yes. UV lamps keep glowing after they lose most of their strength, so plan on a new lamp about once a year. We check it at every tune-up and tell you the lamp price before we swap it.
Can you add it during my furnace tune-up or duct cleaning?
That is the best time. The system is already open, so it goes in on the same visit with no extra trip charge. Just ask the tech, or mention it when you book.
